Sky Brown, In Memory of Fish, acrylics and magazine, $600
Sky Brown
York School, Junior
I’m currently a junior attending York School. My art is not limited to one specific medium but instead encompasses most categories. My love for art has been greatly influenced by my dad, who’s abstract and colorful designs have always held my attention, alongside his detailed pieces.
This piece is greatly influenced by me recently reading Why Fish Don’t Exist by Lulu Miller. The concept of constructing a category to put things into based on appearance alone stuck with me. I am trying to engage more with my childhood and my relationship with it now as a seventeen-year-old. The way I view it is as a construct I’ve created to make the past more palatable, when it’s not a true representation of the events. I do my best to capture this with the abstract expression of my young self and the sea.
