Valeria Murillo, Cruisin' to Salinas, watercolor, white gel and ball point pen, and mechanical pencils, $400

Valeria Murillo

Rancho San Juan High School, Senior

My name is Valeria Murillo-Macias. I am currently a 12th grade student attending Rancho San Juan High School. I took AP Studio Art my 11th year after discovering my passion for art at the age of 4. I developed my art style by finding inexpensive materials in my household, eventually evolving my shading techniques with both ball point pens and mechanical pencils. I recently began to paint my art pieces with watercolor as well as metallic paints to add vitality, finding that it creates a contrast with the black and grey symbols. As for this piece, I wanted to showcase where I was born and raised as well as my passion for old school cars so I added as much detail as I possibly could to make the Impala and the Salinas arch more prominent.
