When it comes to my art, the freedom I feel expressing myself through paint not only creatively and visually, but also as a reflection of the most important experiences and people in my life has allowed me to grow greatly as an artist and a person.
The majority of my artwork draws its inspiration from the bitter yet very sweet emotions that tend to encompass my reminiscing of childhood memories, particularly regarding growing up with my two older siblings. Acrylic and oil paints are my favorite mediums to use, and with them I try my best to capture the brilliantly happy moments spent with my family and friends as well as the melancholic acceptance that growing up brings a lot of change, no matter how reluctant one is to it.
This specific piece, “Home”, done in acrylic paint, is a representation of how I remember my sister moving away to college. As the youngest of three siblings, this felt like a last step out of our childhood and off to separate paths while I was still back at home, waiting for them to visit. Along with that sadness I also incorporated the joy and pride that I feel for both of my siblings and how the bonds formed between us will never weaken, not even with increased distance stretching between us.
