I am Derin Seyhun. I am a student at North Salinas High School. I have been creating art ever since my earliest memories. My friends and family play an important role in my creativity and inspiration. They are my biggest supporters, and I am forever grateful. I enjoy artistic movements and my favorite is the Renaissance art movement. It is the one that inspires me the most. I love that the paintings look like a picture rather than a painting. Through my art journey, I have learned that not every piece turns out the way you want, but it is in your hands to make it beautiful with your creativity and passion. One of my favorite mediums is acrylics. I chose acrylics because it reminds me of my childhood, my memories from my art class, and the joy I have for art. When I look at my piece I see two things: one is fire. The fire is representing the passion I have for art, and the wings are giving me freedom. They remind me there are no limitations in art, and I am alone with my creativity and passion. When I look at the paint flowing from the wings, I see sunshine and the warmth of the sun, representing the peace I feel when I make art. When I create art, I am free, I am in control, and I am warm. It is so peaceful that it is where I escape when I am overwhelmed.
