Isabel Himmelvo, My Mother And Grandmother, acrylic, mixed media, $100,000

Isabel Himmelvo

Stevenson School, Junior

My sustained investigation explores motherhood as both a personal and generational force, shaped by resilience, absence, and care. Growing up with two mothers has deeply influenced how I understand family, strength, and nurturing. In my life, motherhood has never been singular or traditional; instead, it has been layered, collaborative, and rooted in perseverance. This experience led me to question how motherhood is defined and how it is visually represented. Both of my mothers were raised mostly by their mothers.
